Within Reach is a visual tale of a woman dealing with change; adapting to
it and creating it. Making a route, measuring time and events, are all part
of this journey within herself. Questions arise. Can I plan my future? When
will I die? Where will I go next? How do I know if I have failed or succeeded?
Will I return?
Artist Statement
My 30 year career as an artist has led me to living in Wales, Cyprus, Saudi Arabia, and Italy. This multi-cultural experience has formed the underpinning of my work which addresses the vagaries of the human condition as they are influenced by culture, religion, and tradition. I have seen that the farther one goes externally (in terms of location, culture, tradition) or internally (in terms of personal beliefs and values), the bigger the risk and challenge to self-definition. During this process, cultural lines begin to blur. The exotic becomes familiar and the familiar foreign.
Rose Camastro-Pritchett is a Chicago based multi-media artist whose work has been exhibited or performed throughout the United States, Europe, and the Middle-East. She is President of Camastro-Pritchett Art International Inc. and is on the faculty of Columbia College Chicago.
